With Diablo 4 launching on 6 June 2023 and the open beta expected for “early 2023”, Diablo 3 Season 28 and Diablo 2 Resurrected Ladder Season 3 are the last seasons before the release of the highly-anticipated new mainline entry in the iconic ARPG franchise. Both of these seasons, at the time of writing, have not launched yet, making them later than expected.
Diablo fans are, of course, eager to know precisely when D3 Season 28 and D2R Ladder Season 3 will begin. Blizzard has not provided an update for fans, revealing the release date windows for both Diablo 3 Season 28 and D2R Ladder Season 3!
Blizzard on Diablo 3 Season 28 & Diablo 2 Resurrected Season 3
This news, instead, comes from Community Manager PezRadar on the official Diablo franchise subreddit. In the post, PezRadar first wishes fans a “happy new year” and then proceeds to state the following:
We just wanted to provide a quick update on D2R and D3 timing for upcoming seasons and updates as we have seen a plethora of questions regarding timing for these.
Yes, we’ve definitely been waiting longer than expected! So when exactly do D2R Ladder Season 3 and Diablo 3 Season 28 begin? The Community Manager didn’t give an exact date but did provide some release windows.
- Diablo 2 Resurrected Ladder Season 3: Expected to begin “sometime in mid-February.”
- Diablo 3 Season 28: PTR is coming at the “tail end of January.” Looking at previous seasons, we expect the full launch to happen two weeks after, also putting it in the mid-February 2023 window.

For now, we do believe Diablo 3 Season 28 and Diablo 2 Resurrected will release around mid-February 2023. In the coming weeks, we will know more about both of these seasons.
It is clear from previous update schedules that these will likely be the last seasons before the release of Diablo 4. To be fair, we do expect more seasons for both games, but how many fans will actually be playing Diablo 3 or D2R after the release of Diablo 4? We simply can’t tell at the moment, but we expect Blizzard to continue to push out updates for these titles.
