Super Smash Bros Melee

Heir 5

Heir 5
Heir 5 returns for its fifth edition in August, and it promises to be the biggest ever. So big that the organisers are saying it's "set to be the largest Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament in Europe ever."  The event will last three days, from August 17 to 19, and will be held at the Gilbert Murray Hall in Leicester, England. It's rare for fighting games events to focus solely on one game, but this is exactly what Heir 5 does with Super Smash Bros. Melee. Two tournaments are scheduled: a 768 capped singles event and a 256 capped doubles event. Both of them feature eight-entrant round-robin pools, so there's plenty of opportunity for an unknown to turn up and causes some major upsets. After those pools have concluded, every entrant qualifies for one of seven brackets. Each of these brackets consists of an additional eight-entrant round-robin pool. Which is nice, as it means every entrant is guaranteed to play at least 14 tournament sets. Heir 5 will also feature the world's only double-elimination international crews tournament, a 5v5 event featuring teams from around the world. They will also be hosting an invitational called The Contract, which will see eight Heir 5 attendees voted into a single-elimination tournament. There, they'll battle it out for a sponsorship from Team Heir that will allow them to travel to EU majors for 12 months. As prizes go, that isn't too shabby. In addition to the Smash action there will also be a whole host of side events to take part in, such as a pub quiz, open mic night, live bands and early morning karaoke.

Friday: The Contract and International Crews Saturday: Smash Singles and Doubles start Sunday: Smash Singles and Doubles conclude
