Is Warzone Caldera Shutting Down

Below we'll discuss whether or not Call of Duty Warzone Caldera will be shutting down in 2023.

Warzone 2 has been in the swing of things for a number of seasons now. Having just entered its Season 4, alongside Modern Warfare 2, players have seen more content make its way to the latest Battle Royale. But, there are still players who prefer the original Warzone, which was relaunched under the name Warzone Caldera.

Warzone Caldera was released in a limited capacity. Players could only play the Caldera map from the original Warzone, and were locked into playing Battle Royale mode in either Solos or Quads. Needless to say, its player base wasn’t huge. So with Activision putting focus into the newer Warzone 2, now simply named Warzone, what does this mean for Warzone Caldera?

If you’re asking these same questions and want to know what the future holds for the original Warzone, then we have you covered. Below we’ll be discussing whether Warzone will be shutting down and what we can expect over the next few months from Warzone.

Update 23 June: Activision has announced, as of June 22, that Warzone Caldera will be shut down on September 21, 2023.

In an announcement posted June 22, Activision confirmed that Warzone Caldera will be shutting down. The game will cease operations on September 21, 2023. The announcement came via a Twitter post, linking to the Call of Duty blog. In the statement, Activision said, “As of September 21, 2023, Call of Duty®: Warzone™ Caldera will shut down, as our teams focus on future Call of Duty content including the current Warzone free-to-play experience. We all have had incredible Warzone experiences across the Call of Duty franchise since its first launch, including those in Warzone Caldera.”

Activision has confirmed that any content purchased in Warzone Caldera will remain accessible across Modern Warfare (2019), Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard. Cosmetic items that players unlocked or bought for the original Warzone won’t transfer over to Warzone 2. According to Activision, this is taking place “as a result of a combination of community feedback, technical constraints, and a need to simplify Warzone 2’s release to create a seamless player experience moving forward.” All purchases, battle pass content, and progression in Warzone Caldera are exclusive to that game.
