Published on May 10th, 2017
Six Months ago at the 2016 world Finals, Flash Wolves beat SKT for the third consecutive time. Taking the Win the Flash wolves would be one of the only a few teams to take down SKT before their eventual third title Victory. Mid-Season Invitational is the first time since the 2016 World Finals where the Flash Wolves will be able to fully flex their muscles against top tier Korean talent. Their performance at the smaller International event of IEM Katowice earlier this year, only cements the fact that this is the team to beat the Koreans. They breezed through the tournament Going undefeated in group-stage. Granted they did face a weakened korean opposition with the very best teams in the world not represented. But their sheer dominance during the tournament harkened back to the way SKT had won the IEM event in the previous year. Now heading into MSI the level of competition has intensified. As the defacto best teams from each region arrive in Brazil, it won’t be as clear cut for the Flash Wolves. But they should still be quietly confident coming into the tournament, with fans and analysts around the world looking at them to be the king killers of SKT, the stand out favourites to win. The head coach of SK Telecom T1 Choi “cCarter” Byung-hoon had high praise for the Flash Wolves, comparing them to the level of a home-grown Korean team.“Team SoloMid and Flash Wolves have shown strong performances as they have made it to Round 2, and the Gigabyte Marines have shown a very entertaining full series match against Team SoloMid,” he said. "The Flash Wolves have the same level of performance as most Champions Korea teams." Mid laner Lee “Faker” Sang-hyuk also selected Flash Wolves as a target of his concern,"I think Flash Wolves will be the strongest competitor in terms of challenging the MSI two consecutive wins," he said, "There are a lot of people who think that our team is likely to win, but I will start with uncertainty, "He said. Flash Wolves line-up has largely remained unchanged in the past year. Both at Last seasons MSI and at the World Championship they performed well against SKT, and the roster has only gotten stronger, growing together in cohesion, team play and strategy. A Year of scrimming against Korean Teams will mean Flash Wolves will be full comfortable with the style of play and champion pool that SKT will be bringing to the table. Every analyst worth their salt will currently predict SKT to win MSI, but quietly many are looking at these Taiwanese champions for the possibility of an upset. The Flash Wolves defeated Turkey’s representative, SuperMassive, on Thursday and will play Team WE from China on Wednesday in its first group stage match of MSI. We will just have to wait and see how they perform against the Koreans.
