Highly trained and skillful soldier, John Walker has always been a character who did everything humanly possible to protect his country against powerful nations and allies. Due to his associations with the Power Broker, Walker was transformed into US Agent and has aligned himself with powerful characters and teams, including Thunderbolts, and he'll be arriving to Marvel Snap in the themed season this April.
The character has also appeared in live-action in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and will be seen next in the upcoming Thunderbolts film, but do his card abilities match his incredible power? On the eve of the card's debut in-game, we've unpacked everything to know about US Agent, including the card's abilities, counters, and synergies, and look at potential decks players can try playing upon its release in Marvel Snap.
Marvel Snap US Agent Card Abilities Explained
With the Thunderbolts season for Marvel Snap entering its second week, a new card drop will be added to the game soon. John Walker, a.k.a. US Agent, will be debuting this month and has generated much conversation with the Marvel Snap community about whether the card is worth acquiring.
US Agent is a two-Cost, three Energy card with an Ongoing ability that reduces the power of four, five, and six-Cost cards by -3 Power. This card's ability won't impact their opponent's cards but theirs unless Luke Cage is played to prevent them from being afflicted.
On the other hand, this card will see Rogue and Enchantress played more often in decks to prevent US Agent's ability from reducing their targeted cards like we've seen with Man-Thing. There are a few cards and strategies that US agents do synergize with that may work to their advantage at keeping their high-Powered cards out of Shang-Chi's range, which we've outlined below.
Nevertheless, the card will be available from the in-game Shop for 6,000 Collector's Tokens if they want to acquire US Agent. Likewise, it will also be available as part of its release week's Spotlight Caches alongside Mirage and Jeff the Baby Land Shark using Spotlight Keys, which are earned every 120 Collection Levels.
Best Marvel Snap US Agent Card Decks: Daring To Be Brave
As US Agent functions similarly to Man-Thing, their main priority is to prevent US Agent from targeting cards on their side of the board. To make US Agent a surprisingly effective tech card, they'll need potent cards that synergize well with US Agent, and Hobgoblin is one such card.
Unsurprisingly, Toxic disruption decks are one of the early predicted decks for US Agent to shine as a sufficiently good tech card. This deck from Marvel Snap content creator ItsGuestGaming pairs Hobgoblin with Daredevil, giving players the advantage of targeting lanes more precisely on Turn 5, allowing them to play Hobgoblin.
The inclusion of Ravonna Renslayer and Wave will allow them to incorporate Lockdown cards like Professor X to be played at the US Agent's location. Additional cards to give them some wiggle room, like Green Goblin and Jeff the Baby Land Shark, which can be moved into the US Agent/Professor X to gain lane priority.
Best Marvel Snap US Agent Card Decks: Trash Pulls
Another great card that US Agent synergizes with, as pointed out by Marvel Snap content creator ItsGuestGaming, is Doctor Octopus. When played Doc Ock will pull a maximum of four cards from their opponent's hand to their side of the board.
The positive side of playing Doc Ock is that it prevents the card from Shang-Chi's range due to US Agent's ability but also prevents them from playing Shang-Chi at that location once Luck Cage is revealed later. There's also a chance of high-Powered cards being pulled to the opponent's side of the board to help them gain lane priority, which, as mentioned, will get help from Luke Cage.
Other cards that will also help flood locations include Debrii, which triggers Mockingbird's ability, and The Sentry, which further aids them by giving them lane priority thanks to The Void once Annihilus is on the board. If they don't have The Sentry in their hand by Turn 4, the pairing of Titania and Green Goblin is a worthy option for players to obstruct their lane.
Best Marvel Snap US Agent Card Decks: Cerebro 3
The final card that US Agent may work reasonably well is the Cerebro 3 archetype for a more robust control playstyle. This deck from Marvel Snap content creator Drewberry sees prominent Cerebro 3 cards like Mystique, Iron Man, and Valkyrie to ensure that cards played at a location more or less have equal Power.
Certainly, Luke Cage will always be a key card to run alongside US Agent, especially if they withhold playing him until Turns 5 or 6. Renslayer features again to help discount cards like Iron Man, Cerebro, and Mystique in that order, which Sera could also work, before playing Bast to buff other low-Powered cards.
Valkyrie is an interesting tech card to include as it can swing lane priority in their favor, especially when played in the US Agent lane, while Magik will prolong the match. Jeff the Baby Land Shark will give them added flexibility to secure lane priority, and Crystal will add another card to both players' hands.
