When Did GTA Online Come Out?

GTA Online is a game that has a pretty dedicated fanbase, and it makes sense. It would be difficult for anyone to name a live-service game similar to GTA Online. And it really shouldn't be a surprise, either. It boasts a unique experience thanks to the many heists, missions, and content jam-packed in the game.

The uniqueness of GTA Online is part of the reason why so players keep coming back. Better still, with the next installment, Grand Theft Auto 6, on the horizon, it's only natural that players might ask questions about when GTA Online first launched. After all, it has been a long time since the game was released.

When Did GTA Online First Launch?

GTA Online was originally just an online form of Grand Theft Auto V. At launch, the game was a massive hit, receiving multiple nearly perfect scores from reviewers across the board. Thanks to its success, launching GTA Online was a no-brainer for Rockstar Games.

GTA Online was released on 1 October 2023 for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 game consoles. Admittedly, it was a difficult launch, as players had previously reported difficulties loading into the game two weeks after the launch. But now, GTA Online is out on nearly every major console and Windows PC, which many regard as a sort of standalone title.

When Will GTA Online Support Stop?

Despite its troubles over the years, GTA Online has continued to be supported by its developers, Rockstar Games. This much is so true that Rockstar went as far as to create a new DLC for the game, Los Santos Drug Wars, which is a story-based DLC pack. But when will Rockstar Games stop supporting GTA Online? Or will they ever?

It has been rumored that Rockstar plans to stop releasing content for GTA Online once GTA 6 finally launches. There could be multiple reasons why this might be the case. Maybe Rockstar has online content planned for GTA 6. Maybe GTA Online will live on, but it will be in the world of GTA 6 instead. Who knows if these rumors are true but if they are, now is the time for players to enjoy GTA Online as much as possible.
