Suppose you are new to ARPGs, or just new to Blizzard's iconic franchise. In that case, you might want some beginner's tips before venturing into the world of Sanctuary during Diablo 4's Beta weekends.
This article provides five essential tips to get off to the best start possible in Diablo 4 betas, so you can earn that super-cute Wolf Pup cosmetic for when the game launches in early June and slay the horde of the Burning Hells with ease.
Update on 23 March 2023: We've updated our Diablo 4 tips for the Open Beta, which runs from 24 to 27 March. Enjoy!
Diablo 4 Weapon Attack Above All Else

You will get a tonne of item drops in Diablo 4 of various quality/rarities. That's nice and all, providing increased stats for your character, and if they are Legendary, some Legendary Powers to hopefully compliment your chosen build.
There are core stats in Diablo 4, alongside a vast variety of Affixes you can get on armor and weapons. However, by far the most crucial stat on any weapon, for any class, is the Weapon Attack damage.
This stat improves how hard you hit, obviously, and includes spells for a class such as the Sorcerer or Necromancer. We would go so far as to say that you should replace a Legendary with a Blue (Magic) weapon if the Weapon Attack damage difference is significant.
The exception might be Unique weapons or gloves if you are lucky enough to find one of these ultra-rare, powerful pieces of loot that you can only equip one of, by the way...
Explore Fractured Peaks in D4 Open Beta

In Diablo 4's beta weekends, players will be able to explore the entirety of the snow-covered Fractured Peaks region. There's a whole lot to discover, and we urge beginners and veterans alike to go off the beaten path to find side quests, dungeons, and Altars of Lilith.
You should complete all three Strongholds in the Fractured Peaks region at least once, and if you are prepping for the game's full launch, maybe find a great leveling path.
Below, you can find an overview of the content available in Diablo 4's Fractured Peaks region.
- x7 Waypoints
- x24 Sidequests
- x23 Side Dungeons
- x28 Altars of Lilith
- x3 Strongholds
As an extra little tip, unlocking Waypoints helps you get to locations with haste thanks to Fast Traveling, which will be very helpful when Ashava spawns during Diablo 4's beta weekends.
Do What You Want in Sanctuary

Beta is beta, and progress will not carry over to the game's full release on 2 June 2023 (Early Access) or 6 June 2023 for those who purchase the Standard Edition. Therefore, we suggest playing around as much as you like, going crazy with class build experimentations, and just having fun.
It is important to note that Early Access Beta progress does carry over to the Open Beta. Saying that, however, you should still spend your Gold as you like, test out any crafting, spend those crafting materials, and not worry about anything but pure enjoyment.
The only other goal would possibly be to play all classes, so you know which one you like best before the game's full release.
Stagger Diablo 4 Bosses, Including Ashava

Diablo 4's beta will feature several dungeon/story bosses and a world boss called Ashava the Pestilent that you can defeat.
As a great combat tip for beginners in Sanctuary, we suggest learning about the Diablo 4 Stagger combat mechanic with our dedicated guide. To explain it quickly for the purpose of this article, the more crowd control effects you throw on big bosses, the faster their Stagger bar (thin gold one below the Health bar) fills up. Once it is filled up, the bosses become stunned and very vulnerable for 12 seconds, and they also gain a disadvantage for the rest of the fight.
Pick The Best Diablo 4 Class & Build

Our final tip is to pick the best Diablo 4 class that suits your preferred playstyle. If you like the idea of being a squishy melee/range hybrid that lays traps, then go for a Rogue with a great build.
Those who love getting into the thick of things should probably go for the Barbarian class. It is also our top pick as the best class for beginners during the Diablo 4 beta weekends, with high survivability and mobility. Check out our best Diablo 4 Barbarian build called "Bleed Them Dry."
Alternatively, you could go for the Sorcerer and test out our "Frozen Popsicle" class build. While the Rogue might be a bit more difficult to play than the Barbarian and the Sorcerer, you could try it out as well with our Diablo 4 Rogue build, picking the best skills, items, and more.
With the Early Access beta of Diablo 4, only those three classes mentioned above are available. Once the Open Beta begins on 24 March, you will have two more choices: the Necromancer and Druid.
While you digest these tips for beginners in Diablo 4's beta weekends, you can learn more about the world of Sanctuary in the video below.
So there you have it, five essential tips for beginners in Diablo 4 to make their first trip into Sanctuary a bit easier. Once the beta weekends are completed, we will update this article with some launch tips for newcomers to the iconic ARPG franchise.
