We’re on the final lap as we approach the release of Diablo 4 on the 6th of June, and with it, we expect to see tons of new content to experience for the first time. But many want to know more about the game’s planned content and how the roadmap looks for the next few months of Diablo 4.
So if you’re curious to know more about the roadmap for Diablo 4 and what we can expect to see over the next few months, then we have you covered. Below we’ll take an in-depth look at the roadmap we currently have been given for Diablo 4.
Diablo 4 Roadmap & Features
In a recent quarterly update, the developers shared some exciting information about seasons in the game in the form of a high-level roadmap. These seasons will occur up to four times per year (likely quarterly or every three months at minimum) and will feature new content that players can experience right away. With each new season, the game will be reset, giving players a clean slate to start anew.
As part of this reset, players will pick a new class and play through the game, acquiring new items to power up their character. This means that the progress made in previous seasons will not carry over, providing a fresh start for everyone. This approach will allow players to experiment with different classes and play styles, making each season a unique experience.
The seasonal wipe is a way for the team to introduce new content to the game, such as new questlines and challenges, that will set the stage and theme of the new season. The development team can also use the seasonal wipe to implement any changes or additions to the game that will maintain the balance of the overall meta of builds or bring quality-of-life features to improve player experiences.
At the end of each season, the characters in that season will be moved to the “Eternal Realm.” In this realm, players can continue to level up and build out those characters but without any of the benefits of current seasonal content. The Eternal Realm serves as a way for players to revisit their previous characters and see how far they have come while also allowing them to continue their progress.
Diablo 4 Seasonal Content & More
Now let’s take a look at how each season itself will function in Diablo 4. The developers at Blizzard have added two main features that you need to look out for as you push through each season of the game, the Season Journey and the Battle Pass.
The Season Journey feature from Diablo 3 will be returning. in Diablo 4 and provides players with a separate set of objectives to complete in addition to the main story quests. According to Blizzard, the Season Journeys in Diablo 4 will be much more difficult than those in Diablo 3.
Each season will have new, extremely challenging tasks to accomplish, with them standing out as the main challenges for the season. If you want to know more about the Season Journey, then be sure to check out our full article breaking it down here.
Next, we have the Battle Pass system, a well-known feature in most Diablo games, and Diablo 4 will be no different. However, it will mainly offer cosmetic unlocks as you move through the tiers as well as the removal of “pay-to-win” items.
To give you a TL;DR on the Battle Pass system for Diablo 4, below is a breakdown of everything you’ll need to know.
- The Battle Pass has free and premium tiers
- All players will have access to the free track of the battle pass (27 tiers), and players who purchase the premium pass (63 tiers) will have access to both tracks.
- The Battle Pass awards cosmetics
- Any armor/weapon awards are cosmetic, and will not affect gameplay.
- The Battle Pass awards premium currency
- Players can spend this currency on cosmetic items found in the in-game shop
- The Battle Pass awards a free Season Boost
- Season Boosts allow players to earn XP gains for additional characters leveled in a season.
- Purchasing Battle Pass tiers won’t speed up acquiring Season Boosts
- Players have to play the game to get the Season Boosts.
- Season Journey accelerates Battle Pass progression
- Season Journey completion will help speed up your progress on the Battle Pass.
