Diablo 4 Barbarian Overview: Is it a Good Class?

For those who love charging into battle headfirst, the Barbarian is a great class. Featuring a unique Arsenal system class mechanic (more on that in another section of this guide) allowing you to wield four (4) weapons at once, the Barbarian in Diablo 4 is all about smashing the hordes of the Burning Hells and the followers of Lilith to pieces.
The Barbarian is arguably a very item-dependent class. You will need best-in-slot equipment for Diablo 4's toughest challenges. It is also a beginner-friendly option as a tanky class. The Barbarian uses Fury as a resource, generated by basic attacks and spent by Core Skills, Ultimate Skills, and Weapon Mastery Skills.
The class' unique Dismount ability sees the player jump from their mount and slam the ground, dealing damage to surrounding enemies. Sounds good? Okay, now let's get started with all the details of our best class build for the Diablo 4 Barbarian, jumping straight into the skills to use in our next section.
Best Diablo 4 Barbarian Skills Build: Bleed Them Dry

We call our best Barbarian skill build in Diablo 4 the "Bleed Them Dry" to signify the build's propensity to Whirlwind into a pack of enemies and watch them bleed to death like the good son/daughter of Bul Kathos that you are.
Barbarian Skill Type | Skill Name | Upgrade |
Basic (Fury Generator) | Flay | Battle |
Core Skill (Fury Spender) | Whirlwind | Furious |
Defensive Skill | Rallying Cry | Tactical |
Brawling Skill | Charge | Mighty |
Weapon Mastery Skill | Rupture | Tactical |
Ultimate Skill | Wrath of the Berserker | Supreme |
For those new to Diablo 4, these skill names and upgrades might not mean anything in particular. To really flesh out the best Barbarian build in Diablo 4, we've got explanations of each of the skills listed above, alongside their upgrades, as per Maxroll.gg's data.
- Flay: Flay the enemy dealing {5%} damage. Inflicts {38%} Bleeding damage over 5 seconds.
- Flay Battle upgrade: Flay has a {10%} chance to make enemy Vulnerable for 2 seconds. Double this chance when using a Two-Handed Weapon.

That's already a whole lot of info to consider and take in. This build basically allows your Barbarian to have high mobility due to its skill and upgrade choices and focus on applying a whole lot of Vulnerability and Bleed effects to your enemies. Note that Rupture is used to finish off Elites or deal massive damage spikes after bleed effects are applied.

Stats Priority For Diablo 4 Barbarians

In terms of Primary Stats for Barbarians in Diablo 4, the priority is:
- Strength: +0.1% Skill Damage per point.
- Dexterity: +0.02% Critical Strike Chance per point.
- Willpower: +0.1% Resource Generation per point.
- Intelligence: +0.1% to All Resistances
Please note: this priority list assumes your items will have enough resistance for your current difficulty level.
There are a lot of secondary stats and affixes in Diablo 4. For our Bleed Them Dry build, we suggest looking for +Bleed affixes, + Whirlwind Damage, or really anything that synchronizes well with the Skills picked. Attack speed is always great to have, alongside Critical Hit Damage, movement speed on boots, damage on Gloves (yes, that's a thing in Diablo 4), and hitting All Resistance requirements for the next World Tier difficulty level.
These core stats can also be increased by leveling up and equipping new items. You can also get a permanent primary stat increase for all your characters for every Altar of Lilith you find and interact with.
If your Barbarian has 225 Strength and 225 Dexterity or more in total, you can select a special passive increase that adds +1% Critical Strike Damage per second while the channeled Whirlwind skill is active. This can stack up to 20%, making your Barbarian a devasting flurry of death and destruction on the minions of the Burning Hells.
