Blizzard Quickly Shuts Down Diablo 4 Item Duplication Exploit

Another item duplication exploit in Diablo 4 caused trading to be disabled once again, but Blizzard acted with haste to shut it down.

As quickly as The Butcher can slay players running a Nightmare Dungeon, Blizzard has shut down yet another Diablo 4 item duplication bug. On 8 November 2023, reports came in that the developer again disabled trading and that this was due to a new exploit allowing players to duplicate Uber Boss summoning materials and gold...

Blizzard didn't waste time disabling trading for roughly 10 hours and pushed out a quick Diablo 4 hotfix. This comes after a stern warning from the developers that players might face action.

According to the game's End User License Agreement (EULA), users can get temporarily suspended or outright banned for an offense of this nature. Take this as a warning: Do not attempt to abuse exploits!

Diablo 4 Patch 1.2.2 Hotfix 1 details

Unlike the bigger patch notes, Blizzard didn't create a whole blog post for this hotfix update, but it is a very important one, reinstating trading and squashing the item/gold duplication exploit.

On the Diablo 4 US forums, Community Manager SinfulScribe revealed what was fixed in the Diablo 4 Patch 1.2.2 Hotfix 1 update:

  • THIS HOTFIX HAS ROLLED OUT TO ALL PLAYERS. ADDITIONALLY, TRADE HAS BEEN REINSTATED.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to duplicate items.
  • Fixed an issue with Vampiric Powers that caused the player to dismount from their Mount upon using a power.
  • Miscellaneous
  • Made various performance and stability improvements.

Well done to Blizzard for fixing this issue with haste. The previous time an item duplication exploit reared its ugly head, trading was disabled for over a week.

On a more positive note, you can check out the Vessel of Hatred (Diablo 4's first expansion) trailer from BlizzCon 2023 below!

Hopefully, these bad actors using an exploit will be banned permanently, making Sanctuary a place void of cheaters once again.
