Wondering how long it would take to beat Diablo 4's dark story? We've got you covered so prospective Nephalem can plan their game time once Diablo 4 releases on 6 June 2023 (2 June for Early Access).
In this guide, we discuss the average completion length of Diablo 4's story campaign, which takes place decades after the events of Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, with Sanctuary in chaos with the return of Lilith.
Update on 27 March 2023: We've updated this article with the latest information about Diablo 4's campaign/story length. In the Diablo 4 Open Beta, it took us about 11 hours to hit max level of 25 and complete Act I.
Diablo 4 Story/Campaign: How Long To Beat?

Diablo 3's story was, on average, 18 hours in length, while Diablo 2 was around 34 hours, and the original was around 14 hours. Diablo 4 promises to feature the biggest campaign to date, and the massive world of Sanctuary is filled with activities.
In an interview with GameSpot, Game Director Joe Shely revealed how long it would take to beat Diablo 4's story campaign for the first time as 35 hours. Remember, this greatly depends on which difficulty you choose, as players can start in either Diablo 4's World Tier 1 or World Tier 2 difficulties, the former being for those new to ARPGs, and the latter being for Diablo veterans.
You're able to travel anywhere in the world, make decisions about what you want to do, whether you want to pursue the campaign, which is a 35-hour experience that is just brimming with story and characters that are really human and you can really connect with on an emotional level. We've worked really hard on the campaign in Diablo 4 and we're really proud of how it's developing.
It is also worth noting that the story in Diablo 4 is non-linear, so you can choose what to do and where to go following the prologue and first zone. One activity that many players will likely want to complete in all the regions is the Diablo 4 Strongholds, as these open up new dungeons, paths, waypoints, and more.

The developers have also confirmed that you will only need to complete the story of Diablo 4 once, so your alts don't have to go through the process. It is estimated that players will be roughly level 45 when they complete the story.
There are a total of five massive areas to explore in Diablo 4, namely:
- Fractured Peaks
- Scosglen
- Dry Steppes
- Kehjistan
- Hawezar

So there you have it, an average number of hours it should take players to complete Diablo 4's story campaign for the first time. Remember, this may vary wildly based on player skill and how much side content they get distracted by during their first playthrough. We will endeavor to update this article once more information on Diablo 4's story length becomes available.
