Diablo 4 Lucky Hit Explained: How it Works & Affixes

Here's everything you need to know about Lucky Hit in Diablo 4.
Diablo 4 Lucky Hit Explained: How it Works & Affixes

Diablo 4 is a mechanically complex ARPG where several elements influence the quality of your character's build. Some elements are straightforward to use, whereas others are somewhat confusing, and you may have a difficult time understanding how they function.

Lucky Hit is one such confusing gameplay element in Diablo 4. If used correctly, these can provide activate unique effects in combat. As such, to make things simple for you, here's our guide explaining how Lucky Hit works in Diablo 4.

How Lucky Hit Works in Diablo 4

Put simply, Lucky Hit is a chance to activate a unique effect in combat. Some skills, equipment, and Legendary Aspects have Lucky Chance effects that can be activated in combat. However, their activation rate depends on several factors, like the Lucky Hit Chance of the effect, the base Lucky Hit Chance of the skill, and the Lucky Hit Chance of your equipped gear.

You can improve the Lucky Hit chance of an effect by equipping gear and Legendary Aspects that come with the Lucky Hit element. It's important to note that improving your Lucky Hit Chance by equipping gear and Aspects will be useless if you don't use a skill or Aspect that comes with a Lucky Hit effect.

Makes sense? For instance, if there's a skill that has a 31% Lucky Hit Chance, it won't do anything if it doesn't have a Lucky Hit effect associated with it. However, you can still take advantage of that 31% by equipping a weapon that has a Lucky Hit effect. All in all, you have to tweak and equip skills, weapons, items, and Aspects that not just increase the overall chance of activating Lucky Hit but also something that has an effect to activate

There is a Lucky Hit formula that can decide the activation/execution rate of the Lucky Chance effect:

Lucky Hit Effect Chance = (Lucky Hit Chance of Skill) X (Proc Chance of Lucky Hit Effect) X (1 + the Sum of Lucky Hit Bonuses added Together)

Proc Change is actually the (up to +X% Lucky Chance) thing of any gear.

Here's another example (courtesy of maxroll.gg) that demonstrates this formula very well.

Let's assume you're using the following skill and gear:

  • Weapon: Lucky Hit: Up to +5.0% Chance to Execute Injured Non-Elites
  • Ring: +10% Lucky Hit Chance
  • Gloves: +5% Lucky Hit Chance
  • Heartseeker Skill: 50% Lucky Hit chance

Now, if you hit an enemy with less than 35% HP with the Heartseeker skill, the Lucky Chance activation rate would be:

0.5x0.05x(1+0.1+0.05) = 2.875%

Lucky Hit chance works similarly to Critical Hit chance but is quite different. In the case of the latter, activating it will deal bonus damage, whereas in the case of the former, activating it will trigger a unique effect.

That's everything you need to know about Lucky Hits in Diablo 4. Hopefully, this guide helped Diablo 4 players understand this complicated mechanic a bit better.
