In Diablo 4 Season 4, entitled Loot Reborn, it’s all about the new itemization systems, with Tempering and Masterworking as the primary ways of enhancing your equipment even further. For Masterworking, in particular, players will need to venture into The Pit of Artificers for powerful materials. However, you can also get the specific Masterworking materials you want via the Transmute function at the Alchemist.
Join us, Nelphalem, as we explain the cost of transmuting materials and Gold into Masterworking Caches in Diablo 4 and the important recent change.
Transmuting Diablo 4 Masterworking Caches
Many players in the endgame are suffering from empty Gold purses, as the cost of Masterworking material Caches at the Alchemist was quite high at the start of Season 4. In the Diablo 4 1.4.0b update, Blizzard made a fantastic change, significantly reducing the Gold cost at the Alchemist to transmute Masterworking material caches:
The amount of gold it costs to transmute Masterworking material caches has been significantly reduced.
How significant is Blizzard’s significant, really? Well, the Large Ingolith Cache used to transmute for 6 million gold, and it is now down to 60,000.
Once you’ve entered the endgame in Diablo 4 Season 4 and started venturing into The Pit, you’ll earn materials used in the Masterworking process. If you have an abundance of one of these materials but lack another, you might want to consider heading to the nearest Alchemist NPC vendor and taking advantage of the Transmuting process.
You can find the Masterworking material caches transmute costs, including new Gold values and materials, in the table below.
| Masterworking Material Cache | Materials/Items Inside | Cost to Transmute |
| Small Obducite Cache | 15 Obducite |
|
| Small Ingolith Cache | 15 Ingolith |
|
| Medium Obducite Cache | 75 Obducite |
|
| Medium Ingolith Cache | 75 Ingolith |
15,000 Gold 25 Neathiron |
| Large Obducite Cache | 300 Obducite |
20,000 Gold 100 Ingolith |
| Large Ingolith Cache | 300 Ingolith |
60,000 Gold 100 Neathiron |
As you can see, it is now much, much cheaper (in terms of Gold) to transmute materials into Masterworking Caches. Some players might still not think it is worth it due to needing to spend higher-level materials to get more of the lower-level quality, while others are finding uses for the Transmutation service at the Alchemist.
