With Diablo 4 Season of Blood fixing many of the game’s issues, we are excited for the game’s future. Part of its future is, of course, the annual expansions mentioned by Rod Fergusson, and now, a leak suggests the first Diablo 4 expansion will be called “Lord of Hatred.”
This makes a whole lot of sense since we’ve always believed Diablo 4 might have three expansions, each one focusing on a different Prime Evil. The Lord of Hatred is, of course, Mephisto (Lilith’s father), who is featured throughout the campaign. Let’s dive into the leaks!
Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred Expansion Leaks
First off, a refresher of what is happening. Blizzard’s Diablo franchise manager, Rod Fergusson, confirmed at the launch of Diablo 4 that the game would have annual expansions, stating:
When you look at the launch of the game and this first season, we see that as building a foundation on which we can build for the future. So, as we look at our quarterly seasons, and we look at our annual expansions, those are the things that we’re really focused on for our live service.
Recently, a Technical Alpha build for Diablo 4 version 2.0 was spotted in a private testing branch.
Reportedly, from datamines of this build, several pieces of information have leaked, including the name of Diablo 4’s first expansion, Lord of Hatred. A summary of the leaked, very tasty info can be viewed below.
- New class called Spiritborn (Reportedly using Glaives as a new weapon type). Files mention “soaring,” “nature” and “wings.”
- Kurast as the new region (from Diablo 2)
- Travincal is an area in the region.
- A possibility of raids.
- A mercenary system with their own talent trees and equipment.
- Crafting Runestones
As always, please remember to take leaks such as this one with a grain of salt until Blizzard officially confirms the details of Diablo 4’s first expansion. We might just hear something official very soon since Blizzcon 2023 runs from 3 to 4 November this year!
What we can confirm is that Diablo 4 Season 2 is awesome! Check out the in-depth developer livestream recording for Diablo 4 Season 2 to learn more about all the new features, content, and quality of life changes in the Season of Blood in case you’ve missed it.
While we know an expansion is coming, and the testing branch that was spotted is as official as it comes, we hope the leaked information about the Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred expansion is true, as it does sound quite fantastic.
Stay tuned as we will cover everything about the first Diablo 4 expansion as soon as official information becomes available!
