Diablo 4 Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon Guide: How To Complete

Here's how to complete the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon in Diablo 4.
Diablo 4 Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon Guide: How To Complete

The Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon in Diablo 4 is your first big obstacle after finishing the game's campaign. Completing the Cathedral of Light dungeon will not just unlock the World Tier 3 difficulty but a host of new end-game activities like Helltides

It's essential to add that Capstone Dungeons work differently from the game's regular Dungeons, and you need to be well-prepared to tackle this one. This guide covers everything you need to know about the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon, including details on how to prepare for it, how to clear the objectives within it, how to beat the bosses, and the rewards you get from finishing it.

How to Prepare for the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon in Diablo 4

Firstly, your character should be at least level 50 before you attempt the Cathedral of Light Dungeon. Unlike others, Capstone Dungeon's difficulty doesn't scale according to your level. If you want to try it at or below 50, at least make sure you have a strong build. Your current gear won't be of much use in World Tier 3, so make good use of it here.

Secondly, you may want to craft a few Elixirs to gain some much-needed advantage in the Dungeon. We recommend crafting the Elixir of Assault, Strong Ironbarb Elixir, Elixir of Man-Slaying, and Elixir of Undead-Slaying.

The Elixir of Assault will increase your Attack Speed by 10% and will be incredibly useful since this Dungeon probably has more enemies than anything you have faced before.

The Cathedral of Light is swarming with Knights Penitent, gigantic enemies that leach the life out of you. The Elixir of Man-Slaying will increase the damage you do against Knights Penitent, and we can't overstate how useful this is, especially if you're playing solo.

Another Elixir that will be very important in this Dungeon is the Elixir of Undead-Slaying. The final boss of the Cathedral of Light tends to fill the boss arena with a multitude of Undead Skeletons. It's easy to get overwhelmed in this encounter, and this Elixir will give you an edge by increasing the damage you do to Skeletons by 20%.

Lastly, we recommend crafting the Strong Ironbarb Elixir. The Cathedral of Light is your first array into the end game of Diablo 4. As you may expect, enemies hit hard in this Dungeon, and the Strong Ironbard Elixir will increase your armor by 300 and Thorns by 150.

Speaking of armor, if you haven't been investing in your character's defenses up until this time, it's to best to have a look and improve it before venturing into the Cathedral of Light. We recommend finding the Altars of Lilith and rolling better Legendaries by spending Obols.

You may also want to farm Crushed Beat Bones and Paletongues, as you will need them to craft some of the Elixirs we mentioned above. With the preparations complete, it's time to dive into the Dungeon.

How to Clear Diablo 4 Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon

The Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon is a two-part Dungeon. It means after you clear the objectives and defeat the boss in the first part, you have to use a portal to the second part, complete all the objectives there, and defeat yet another boss to complete it. In short, you will be clearing two Dungeons in one, so buckle up.

Your first objective is to "collect Animus from the Revenant Knights." These are Elite enemies in every corner of the map. You will find plenty of other threats here as well, including Knight Penitent, so it's best to consume Elixir of Man-Slaying if you have one.

If you want to make this encounter less tedious, don't open every single door in the Cathedral. As soon as you're near a Revenant Knight, its location will show up in the mini-map. The optional areas are swarming with Knight Penitents and its minions, and if your objective is to clear the Dungeon as soon as possible, maybe not peek into every passing door.

Once you have slayed all the Revenant Knights, head back to the center and deposit Animus into the Animus Urn. Doing so will open up the door to the next area.

Your next objective is to travel to the High Council court. As you may expect, the road to the High Council court won't be easy, with plenty of Skeletons, Knight Penitents, and Fiery Inquisitors (Elites). Remain agile, keep an eye on your health meter, and you should reach the High Council Court. It's time for the first boss battle.

How to Beat Cathedral of Light Bosses in Diablo 4

Strangely enough, the High Council Court boss is the most intimidating yet easy boss encounter in Diablo 4. You will face four bosses together, and each of them is somewhat less challenging than some of the Elite bosses in the game.

These bosses are Sacred Physician, Grand Inquisitor, Lord Commander, and Devoted Champion.
As soon as you enter the boss arena, we recommend using your Ultimate ability to deal a devastating amount of damage to all four enemies. For this encounter, you don't have to worry about saving your ultimate until they are staggered, as they take plenty of damage anyways.

None of the four bosses have any unique attacks that you need to watch out for except one from Lord Commander. In this, it throws four white lines in opposite directions that deal a ton of damage. You could easily avoid this, but it's hard to predict when it will appear amidst all the chaos.
Remain agile and keep an eye on your health and you should be able to complete this encounter very quickly. Once the enemies are down, a portal will appear that will take you to the second half of this Capstone Dungeon.

How to Clear the Reliquary of Erudition in Diablo 4

The second half of the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon takes place in another Dungeon called Reliquary of Erudition. Your one and only objective here is to slay all enemies. It's mostly crawling with enemies you faced earlier, with a few exceptions like the Knight Errant and Skeleton Ballistas. The latter is quite deadly, so wipe them out before they wipe you out. There are also poison variants of Knight Errant and lightning variants of Knight Penitent so it's worth equipping gear that offers poison and lightning resistances.

The Reliquary of Erudition isn't very challenging, especially compared to the first half of this Dungeon. However, don't let your guard down as a formidable foe waits ahead.

After you have slayed every enemy in the Reliquary of Erudition, travel to the Curator's Chamber, where you will face one of the most challenging bosses of Diablo 4.

How to Beat the Curator in Diablo 4

The battle with the Curator is a long and tedious one. It's easy to get overwhelmed in this encounter since there's so much happening on the screen at the same time. The trick is to remain agile and focus on filling the Curator's stagger meter and then using your core, master, and ultimate to take it down.

Since this is an incredibly challenging boss encounter, we have created a separate guide on how to beat the Curator. It's an in-depth guide that covers everything you need to about the boss, including details on how to prepare for it, how to approach this encounter, the boss's attack patterns, and many more.

Completing the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon will get you plenty of things, including at least three legendary gear drops from the Curator boss. Expect a few legendaries and top-tier rare gear drops from the numerous Elites you face in the Dungeon as well.

Most importantly, completing the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon will unlock the World Tier 3 difficulty. You will gain a ton of XP and gold in the process.

That concludes our guide on the Diablo 4 Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon.
