As a brand-new mechanic in Diablo 4 Season 4, Masterworking at the Blacksmith helps players greatly improve the affixes on their items. Unlike Tempering, which is available from the get-go, Masterworking only unlocks after you've completed the first tier of The Pit of Artificers, a new endgame activity meant for max-level players.

By participating in The Pit of Artificers, you'll earn Masterworking materials to improve your gear through 12 Ranks. The effects of Masterworking are powerful, but the price is exceptionally high at later Ranks. Let's dive in and discuss them all

You'll get huge boosts at Rank 4, 8, and 12, with a 25% increase to a random affix on the item. Yes, these can stack, and they do work with Greater Affixes, making Masterworking potentially game-changing if you are lucky enough.

Please note:The data comes from the fantastic resource WoWHead. You'll see multiple items listed, for example Rawhide and Iron Chunk. Only one of these types are required, depending if you are Masterworking a weapon (Iron Chunk) or a piece of armor (Rawhide).
